Dr. Alpert

Dr. Mitchel Alpert is The Director of Pediatric Cardiology for the Jersey Shore University Medical Center and the senior member and founder of Alpert, Zales, and Castro Pediatric Cardiology located in Brick and Middletown, New Jersey. Dr. Alpert founded Pediatric Cardiology in the 1980's in Ocean County and became the first Pediatric Cardiologist at Jersey Shore Medical Center to develop a Pediatric Cardiology teaching program at that Center. Dr. Alpert also previously had been quite active with the Sports Science Committee at the United States Tennis Association for eight years helping to study the effect of high intensity exercise in our young athletes and helped to develop safety protocols. Dr. Alpert also spent 5 years at the Rutgers Medical School in New Brunswick teaching patient centered medicine to the first and second year medical students.
Dr. Alpert is from New Jersey having grown up in Piscataway. After attending Emory University he returned to New Jersey where he went to Medical School at the Rutgers University-New Jersey Medical School and did his residency in at the same program. He subsequently did his Pediatric Cardiology fellowship at New York University. After opening up a private practice in Pediatric Cardiology in 1987 he subsequently grew this original one person practice into the largest free standing Pediatric Cardiology practice in New Jersey.

Dr. Alpert has been honored to win the "Top Doctor" award in Pediatric Cardiology from both New Jersey Monthly and Castle Connolly 9 times each. He has also won the teaching award from the Pediatric Residents at Jersey Shore University Medical Center six times.

Dr. Alpert is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology and in fact has recertified multiple times in Pediatric Cardiology sometimes voluntarily. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is a member of the Medical Society of New Jersey and the Ocean County Medical Society. He is also a member of the American Heart Association.

Dr. Alpert has a special interest in treating, prolonged QT syndrome, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, and other acquired cardiac diagnoses in addition to obviously treating all forms of congenital heart disease.

Dr. Zales

Dr. Zales has been practicing Pediatric Cardiology since 1987. He joined Dr. Alpert and his practice in 1998. He is married with four children and blessed with nine grandchildren. He resides in Rumson. Dr. Zales is a graduate of Villanova University. He completed his general pediatric training and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Mi1mesota Medical School. He is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Zales was the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and the Medical Director at the Pediatric Heart Transplant Program at the Northwestern University Medical School for ten years before returning to New Jersey. He was previously the Chairman of Pediatric Cardiology at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center. 
Dr. Vincent Zales is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center. He has authored 40 important manuscripts in Pediatric Cardiology, and has made a number of presentations at National Pediatric Cardiology conferences. Dr. Zales was a member of the Executive Board of the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey for ten years. 

Dr. Zales has special interest and training in the care of infants and children with complex congenital heart disease. He was the co-director of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Clinic at the Jersey Shore Medical Center and now sees these young adults in our office. 
He enjoys family time, boating, golf and Villanova basketball. 

Dr. Castro

Dr. Castro, a native of south Texas, joined our practice in October of 2001. Her cardiology training was completed at the Temple University/St. Christopher's Hospital for Children Program and at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center. She is board-certified in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology.

Since joining our practice, Dr. Castro has actively pursued her special interest in pediatric echocardiography and fetal echocardiography by taking additional training at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Her close relationship with the physicians at that institution ensures excellent continuity of care for patients in our practice with complex congenital heart disease. Dr. Castro is also fluent in both English and Spanish. She has been a Top Doctor for the last 5 consecutive years for Castle Connolly.

Dr. Umali-Pamintuan

Dr. Umali-Pamintuan was born and raised in the Philippines. She studied medicine at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. She subsequently completed her Pediatric Residency Training at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. Her interest in Pediatric Cardiology, was encouraged by her mentors, Drs. Alpert, Zales and Castro, with whom she spent time during her residency training. Dr. Umali-Pamintuan pursued her fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. She was trained in all aspects of General Pediatric Cardiology, including Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Fetal Echocardiography.
Dr. Umali-Pamintuan has now joined the practice she loves, effective September 2009. Her duties will be divided between patient care in the office setting, and Pediatric Resident Education at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Dr. Umali-Pamintuan is Board Certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. She enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and family. Her outside interests also include music, photography, reading and movies.

Dr. Chin

Dr. Stephanie E. Chin was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, studied medicine at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine in Buffalo, NY, and completed her pediatric residency training at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland, OH. She remained for an additional year as chief resident, where she promoted resident advocacy and education. Her pediatric cardiology fellowship training was completed at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC, where she developed her skills in transthoracic and fetal echocardiography, as well as general pediatric cardiology and adult congenital heart disease. She has experience in postoperative and cardiac intensive care unit management, cardiovascular genetics, and transplant care.
Dr. Chin enjoys spending time with her husband, her son and English bulldog Penny. She also enjoys traveling, playing violin and piano. Dr. Chin is Board Certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Chin is fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
